Between posting to b.d.o and your response I did find (I think via a Ubuntu repo) a package for i386 by Andreas Jonsson, version 0.2+svn96-0.1~px1 Installs fine, but did seem to crash suddenly and silently, and I haven't gotten back to try anything like a strace against it. This is using Genuine Debian Unstable box2d.
