Unfortunately, it is. I'm going to address this when the Open MPI transition is finished. We decided to wait for 1.3.2 to migrate to testing before we do more bug hunting to not affect the rebuilds. I'm also not quite sure if we can solve the problem alone. We probably have to change all MPI packages. IMHO using the alternatives system for MPI implementations is wrong in many aspects but were introduced long before my time in Debian. Fixing this appropriately will take some time but I hope to have it done until the release of Squeeze.
