Can this fix pretty please also be pushed into an lenny and etch
update? It is extremely inconvenient to have your harddisk pile up with
non-rotated and never compressed logfiles and no direct clue of what
might be going wrong.

Would be extremely convenient if this could get tackled. I am willing
to speak to the release team about wether a fix for that might get
accepted into a (old)stable update but given its influence it is pretty
clear that we want to have this fixed there, too. It becomes especially
painful for mailservers where one is using clamav (possibly from
volatile) which uses ucf and reacts badly in that respect during updates
when one adjusts some settings.

 Thanks in advance!
Rhonda
