Yes it seems that it's a bit painful. I'll try booting my intel thinkpad with modeset=0 to check, but, for the moment: intel thinkpad with KMS: cat /proc/fb 0 inteldrmfb radeon thinkpad with fb: cat /proc/fb 0 ATI Radeon 4c59 So yeah, it could be sufficient atm if it works ok without KMS on the intel thinkpad.
