In KMyMoney 0.9.3 and above, there is a payee matching algorithm that allows to even work with unique ID within the payees name. This avoids polluting the payee list after it has been configured correctly.
Also, it is possible to select multiple payees and delete them while attaching the transactions of those payees to another one still in the database.
