Thanks for prodding me into working on this long standing problem! There is a pretty stringent standard in place for uploads to stable and old-stable [1], and I am not sure we can get over that bar. There may be some debate whether this problem is a "truly critical functionality problem", and as of now there is little evidence whether the fix actually works as intended. Once -14 enters testing and there are no reports of 100% CPU usage in a month or two, we can then talk to the stable release team...
