Dear KDE Maintainers, I like to double this report: Since I updated in May the maximizing behavior is defective with TwinView even with the newest KDE 4.2.4 packages.
But I made some observations which may help to isolate the cause for this misbehavior: - I have two separate plasma screens with different background images (as Martin). - The window list when switching windows with Alt+Tab spans (incorrectly) between the two screens. - KRunner is displayed correctly on the screen the mouse pointer is on. - When switching applications to fullscreen it works correctly (for example kaffeine or konsole), they get borderless "maximized" to the screen where their larger part is on. - Interestingly with activated desktop effects window drop shadows are limited to the first screen. When a window spans both screens the part on the first screen has a shadow, the part on the second has none. - When using the cube effect and switching desktops the cube looks somehow garbled: The second screen protrudes to the right on every side of the cube. It looks somewhat like a paddle wheel. Additionally the top and bottom caps of the cube are incomplete. With the older working version of kwin both screens formed a unified rectangle on each side of the cube. So there is a basic awareness that there are two screens but this is ignored when maximizing windows. If it succeeds to determine which different mechanisms are used to get the monitor information when maximizing and when switching to fullscreen it should be possible drill down this error.
