Conneting (i.e. recognizing) is one thing, printing another.

Can you succesfully _print_ when connected directly?

Could you please try to isolate a ps file + a command that will segfault 
when invoked on the commandline.

Above mentions (comment #3) that it was applied upstream in SVN r9452, 
which was included in Debian since 8.64~dfsg-2.

Which means this is probably another error.
