 I second that request; the Recommends were added in one of these
 uploads:

sg3-utils (1.17-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add libtool to build-depends

sg3-utils (1.17-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version

 -- Eric Schwartz (Skif) <emsch...@debian.org>  Sat,  1 Oct 2005 13:26:16 -0600

 with no rationale at a time where recommends were not enforced by
 apt-get.

 I checked the symbols used in libsgutils1 and it doesn't reference any
 exec() function so I think it's not calling these binaries; please
 downgrade to Suggests as the overly strong Recommends will cause these
 utils to be pulled on e.g. CDROM media if a libgpod or libipoddevice
 app is on them (amarok, gtkpod, lastfm, rhythmbox...).

   Thanks,
