There is no practical difference between the two.

OfflineIMAP is specifically written to be crash-safe and exploits that
heavily when needed.

This particular response smells of the IMAP server violating protocol,
though.

I am probably not going to be able to work out what happened or how to
fix it then, unfortunately.  I have never seen this sort of crash before.
