The patch works for me, and I think this is a great improvement. In fact, thinkpad-acpi is kinda useless without it (cf. #521280). +1 from me; please include the patch in the Debian package and send it upstream. As it's a very simple patch, it would make sense to do the two independently, i.e. not wait for upstream to include it.
