I don’t think this would change anything. ISTR this issue now, and it might be caused by the kernel or X. Does it happen as well in a console login? My personal advice would be to replace the ignominious audible bell by a visible bell, by changing the /apps/metacity/general/audible_bell and /apps/metacity/general/visible_bell GConf keys. -- .''`.
