Package: wicd Version: 1.5.9-5 Severity: normal Tired of NetworkManager's inability to handle multi-user OSes, I tried wicd and am generally satisfied. But the UI for WPA connections is just confusing. Here's a sample scenario to see what I mean: - click on the applet to open "Wicd Manager". - see the network I want to use (it says it's using WPA). - I click "connect" and rather than prompting for a password, it complains that this networks requires encryption to be enabled. - I think to myself "how on earth can they distribute a default config that doesn't enable encruption". - I look through the manpages to figure out where I can enable encryption. - I get tired of it after a while, switch over to Google, with just as little luck. - Again, I get tired of it, and go back to the "Wicd Manager" to see what else I can do there. - I finally notice the little triangle next to my network's name. - I click on it, hopeful. - Disappointment: it only lets me say whether to connect automatically, whether I want to run scripts, and finally access to advanced settings. - I think to myself "enabling encryption for a WPA network would clearly never be considered 'advanced', and especially not more advanced than running scripts". - Yet, curiosity finally overpowers me and I go look inside "advanced settings" where I finally see how to "enablke encryption" (i.e. set the password).
