The version in lenny fails to start during system boot with the syslog message ntpd[2552]: crypto_setup: random seed file //.rnd not found A workaround is to add crypto randfile /dev/urandom to /etc/ntp.conf, but as the NTP bug report says, this should not be necessary. I don't know why this applies to 4.2.4, even though ntp#649 says it's fixed in 4.2.2. ntp#897 says 4.2.5 though.
