It looks like Eduard and I are using self-compiled kernels, and anyone using
the legacy RTC
support will only have /dev/rtc, and no /dev/rtc0. But package 'util-linux' is
hard coding
/dev/rtc0 into the 'hwclock*' boot scripts.
Would it be possible to allow 'util-linux' to configure "HWCLOCKPARS" and
"HCTOSYS_DEVICE"
(from /etc/init.d/hwclock{,first}.sh) using a file in /etc/default? I am also
using a self-compiled
kernel, and at boot I was getting messages like
Cannot access the system clock by any known method
until I changed the setting of "HCTOSYS_DEVICE" from "rtc0" to "rtc" in
/etc/init.d/hwclockfirst.sh
and /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh. These values are clearly meant to be modified by
the sysadmin,
anyway, so it seems like the appropriate place would be in /etc/default.
For reference, the Debian kernels are compiled with these options:
CONFIG_RTC_LIB=y
CONFIG_RTC_CLASS=y
CONFIG_RTC_HCTOSYS=y
CONFIG_RTC_HCTOSYS_DEVICE="rtc0"
but my self-compiled kernel using using this instead
CONFIG_RTC=y
(Not sure if Eduard's problem has the same origin, but I would not be
surprised.)
