I'm not using any specific folder or spoolfile settings, only colors,
sorting and changing key settings.

Note that imap subdirs that do not start with a '.' just work fine. Note
also that imap subdirs that do start with a '.' just worked fine in
previous versions of mutt.

Well as the folders are called .boot and similar, I don't really see how
your test with INBOX.subdir would help?

The problem is that mutt apparently does *NOT* try to open '.boot', it
instead tries to open '/boot'.
