I cannot reproduce it with rhythmbox 0.12.1. Can you retest with the package from testing or unstable? If it doesn't help, 0.12.2 (coming soon) may help as uses playbin2 which doesn't require rhythmbox to have a fake visualization in case the user needs it, so the hack is removed.
