Ok, I tried the hint from KDE:
Setting LC_ALL in /etc/init.d/kdm works.
But isn't this a Debian bug nevertheless?
I called "dpkg-reconfigure locales", and de_DE.UTF-8 is
(and already was) my default locale, so I feel kdm should
use it out of the box...
