Sorry, I didn't realize how old 4.14 was (from woody, judging from the dates in the changelog). It's strange that 'reportbug' didn't tell me this, even though it said it was checking the archive for newer versions. I assumed that my xscreensaver package was upgraded last week when I installed Gnome 2.10, but it appears not. It was after that upgrade that I started noticing this problem, however, so perhaps it is somehow related. I have just upgraded to 4.21-3, restarted the daemon, and re-tested xscreensaver-demo, and I'm still experiencing the same buggy behaviour.
