Update:
I have tested this problem with various kernels from Debian testing, sid
and experimental and sidux. It persists with all 2.6.27 and 2.6.28
kernels. With all 2.6.29 kernels, the machine boots flawlessly without
special kernel parameters and two cores are present as designed. So the
bug seems to have been solved upstream. I think this bug can be closed.
