SYSFS support was added to ibam in version 5.0<http://ibam.sourceforge.net/CHANGES>. Upgrading to version 5.0 or later should resolve this bug.
However, it's not clear if the debian ibam package is still being maintained. <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=523166>
