Hi

This may or may not be related to this bug.

We have a couple of servers running etch, with printers attached using cups.

My partner and I have workstations running lenny and squeeze
respectively, similarly running cups. At some point recently (within
the last couple of months) we both lost the ability to print from
Iceweasel. Jobs just disappeared into a 'black hole', not appearing in
'jobs' on localhost. Eventually, we tracked down the problem/solution to
this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/226227

"When I commented the line: AuthInfoRequired username, password
In my /etc/cups/printers.conf I could print from GTK apps as well"

We commented out the line, as recommended, on 27 April and the problem
was resolved. I last printed from Iceweasel on Saturday 2nd May. Today
the problem recurred. I guess at some point over the last few days,
cupsys has been upgraded and the printers.conf file overwritten; my
previous comments had gone. I re-commented the offending lines and
printing from Iceweasel resumed.

There ought to be the default option to retain your existing
printers.conf file.

Regards

Clive
