  How ... utterly bizarre.  I'm pretty sure curses / the terminal
shouldn't be behaving this way.  I can reproduce this in both konsole
and gnome-terminal, but not in the Linux console or in an xterm, so I'm
guessing curses is fine and the terminals are broken.  Maybe I'll see if
I can generate a minimal test case and file bugs on those terminals with
the evidence.
