There are no instructions in #457345 as far as I can see. To create a new format source package do the following: $ mkdir -p debian/source $ echo "3.0 (quilt)" >debian/source/format $ dpkg-buildpackage -S Then remove the source directory and try to extract the new source package and do a normal rebuild. If it works, the bug is fixed. Everything about those new formats is documented in dpkg-source's manual page.
