Which kernels are you running on these different machines? As explained, on my sid amd64, it now works perfectly, and the only thing I have done was upgrading the kernel to 2.6.29 (I will try ASAP with the old 2.6.26 and check whether the issues in cowbuilder are related or not, as it is just a guess!)
