/etc/mime.types has application/vcd.ms-tnef already but some application
attach these files as application/ms-tnef. Can this too be added?
I could, but it really wouldn't gain you anything. The mime.types file
is only useful for converting an extension in to a mime-type. If you're
receiving an attachment already tagged with a mime-type (as all mail
MIME attachments are), then changes to the mime.types file will change
nothing. In fact, the entries with no extensions are just there for
placeholders; they don't actually do anything.
If you want to automatically view the type you're interested in, then
you need to inform the package that provides a tnef viewer and ask them
to also register the alternate type in /etc/mailcap.
