Hi,

I have been browsing through the log files containing the error messages
and I found a very surprising pattern. In the last two weeks, the errors
were caused (exclusively) by the following files:

> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-15_13h00m01s/172.26.26.1/xxx/berichten/2626/klaar/15632
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-15_13h00m01s/172.26.65.1/xxx/berichten/2665/klaar/15632
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-13_13h00m01s/172.26.43.1/xxx/berichten/2643/klaar/24681
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-12_13h00m01s/172.26.43.1/xxx/berichten/2643/klaar/24681
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-10_13h00m01s/172.26.19.1/xxx/berichten/2619/Klaar/24692
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-08_13h00m01s/172.26.26.1/xxx/berichten/2626/klaar/15614
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-04-08_13h00m01s/172.26.46.1/xxx/berichten/3646/klaar/24681
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-03-30_13h00m01s/172.26.31.1/xxx/berichten/2631/klaar/24681
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-03-29_13h00m01s/172.26.21.1/xxx/berichten/2622/klaar/24681
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-03-29_13h00m01s/172.26.34.1/xxx/berichten/2634/klaar/24681
> /backups/HIS/history/2009-03-29_13h00m01s/172.26.39.1/xxx/berichten/2639/klaar/24692

Note that the file names (like "24692") were automatically generated on
totally different days by software running on multiple locations in The
Netherlands. These files were then rsync'ed to our backup server, which
creates an archive identified by a directory with a date/time stamp. The
above list contains files from 9 of these locations (identified by their
IP address), from 7 archives (identified by their date/time stamp). As
you can see, the file names (belonging to files with totally different
contents) show a weird pattern.

For example, six files named "24681" from six different locations
(remember, files do /not/ contain the same data and were generated on
geographically different locations) were causing problems on five
different days. Two files named "15632" from two different locations
have recently caused problems on the same day. Last, but not least, two
files named "24692" from two different locations caused problems on two
totally different days.

Note that some of the files date back to 2007, and some were created in
January of this year. File size varies from a few bytes to a few kilobytes.

The directory "klaar" generally contains 10.000-60.000 files. It is
impossible that this is a simple coincidence, but I really have no idea
what is causing the pattern...
