At the moment we need a scintillation ;-)
I know :-) > Is there any garbage output if you > # /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart > ? Well, yeah, same thing. In fact, the output in my first post was obtained that way ;-) It's been happening across a few reboots, too, so it's likely not a Heisenbug. The fact that sound works fine even after this fails seems to hint towards the idea that maybe on re-detection ALSA fails to detect that the card has *already* been detected previously somehow and reports failure of the re-detection ? Maybe I've got some obsolete OSS/whatever sound system lurking around/package installed ? How do I find out ?
