I have the same problem. Starting yesterday, my sound broke in the same way. If I do modprobe snd-intel8x0, then sound comes back. At least what wasn't broken from the pulseaudio upgrade last week. I have an IBM thinkpad T42p. lspci shows the following for sound:
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01) I keep my squeeze laptop updated daily. Something that hit squeeze in the last few days broke the sound. I am also noticing a problem with my usb mouse. When my gnome desktop starts up the usb mouse is dead. If I unplug it and plug it back in it starts working. The sound problem may not be an alsa-utils bug but rather than close it shouldn't it be transferred to whatever system is causing the bug? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
