The following options in the xorg.conf InputDevice section:
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "1"
Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "1"
did the trick.
Now I'd just like to know why some features which "always" (at least,
since ages) worked just out of the box explicitely need to be configured
now?
