/var/{run,lock} are not really "kernfs"'s, but they are great ideas. It would be good if the method would be generalised and I could use the same infrastructure to mount tmpfs in other places too, to support the creation of a read-only system. Thus, I suggest to remove RAM{LOCK,RUN} from /etc/default/rcS and instead introduce a file like /etc/tmpfs or similar with each line either referencing a line in /etc/fstab, or specifying a mountpoint and options, e.g. /var/run rw,nosuid,mode=755 /var/lock rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec then I could easily add /var/log or /etc/network/run to that file and have tmpfs overlays available early during the boot, e.g. S03mounttmpfs, which runs after 03mountkernfs. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages initscripts depends on: ii debianutils 3.0.1 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii e2fsprogs 1.41.3-1 ext2/ext3/ext4 file system utiliti ii libc6 2.9-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-22 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii mount 2.13.1.1-1 Tools for mounting and manipulatin ii sysvinit-utils 2.86.ds1-61 System-V-like utilities Versions of packages initscripts recommends: ii psmisc 22.6-1 Utilities that use the proc filesy initscripts suggests no packages. -- debconf-show failed -- .''`. martin f. krafft <madd...@d.o> Related projects: : :' : proud Debian developer http://debiansystem.info `. `'` http://people.debian.org/~madduck http://vcs-pkg.org `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing systems
