Current qtoctave's desktop file:
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=QtOctave
Comment=Graphical Qt frontend for GNU Octave
TryExec=qtoctave
Exec=qtoctave
Icon=qtoctave
Type=Application
Categories=Development;Math;Science;Education;

The Desktop Menu Specification at
http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/menu-spec-1.0.html
lists the following main categories:
        AudioVideo
        Audio
        Video
        Development
        Education
        Game
        Graphics
        Network
        Office
        Settings
        System
        Utility
and has the following to say:
"Note that at least one Main Category must be included in the desktop
entry's list of categories."

So, I guess the desktop files is as good as it can be. Whatever a menu
manager makes out of that is out of our control.
