Dear Ewan, The Debian project is distributing Wise2 as a binary package since July 2006. However, Wise2 is built on GLib1.2, which is scheduled for removal in Debian. Unless Wise2 is ported to GLib2, it will not be possible to distribute it anymore in the long term.
Debian has a release cycle of 18 to 24 monthes and released recently, so there is probably more than one year for you or other volunteers to do the porting if you think it is necessary. In the case Wise2 is not ported, it will sill be part of our current stable distribution (“Lenny”) until the end of its life cycle, which is a few monthes after the next stable release (probably in 2011). In case the porting of Wise2 to GLib2 will not be done, do not hesitate to let us know which programs you think are good replacements, so that we can package them if they are not yet available in Debian. For instance, Debian also ships Exonerate (that we already build on GLib2). You can find the list of the bioinformatics packages already available on the following URL: http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/bio.html (the ones in green background) Best regards, -- Charles Plessy Debian Med packaging team, http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-med Tsurumi, Kanagawa, Japan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
