This is most probably a limitation of libqca2-plugin-gnupg. The version
of libqca2-plugin-gnupg in debian is very old. I was always waiting for
an official upstream release, but even now, the latest version available
is a 'beta3'. Probably I should just upload that and see if this problem
is fixed.
