Package: jabberd14 Version: 1.6.1.1-1 Severity: important
Last night I decided to upgrade my server running testing once I saw that jabberd had been updated, as I hoped it might resolve a few unimportant minor issues I'd been having. During the upgrade, it as expected, prompted me about my configuration file. As a general rule, I always keep my existing one, then use a graphical diff tool to update it as required. The upgrade (from Aptitude's point of view at least) completed successfully. I could not connect to my server however, and lookign into the matter I discovered this was a much more significant upgrade than I had realised, to the point that the configuration file was incompatible. Given the magnitude of the changes, I set about merging my settings into the dpkg-dist version of the config file. I have thus far been unable to get the server to work. First and formost, the documentation claims that the old spool directory will be copied from '/var/lib/jabber' to '/var/spool/jabberd'. This did not happen. I was left with my old xdb files in '/var/lib/jabber', and an empty '/var/spool/jabberd'. I copied the files (and just to be certain, chowned them to jabberd:jabberd), but still, I cannot log into my server. As the configuration file formats are both XML, surely a transform can be written to migrate to the new format? We do this on our own products and it works quite nicely, but without a working configuration to aim for, I can't even being to look at doing that! :) I'll attach my configs once I get a chance to sanitise them. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages jabberd14 depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.3.3-3 GCC support library ii libidn11 1.12-1 GNU Libidn library, implementation ii libjabberd2 1.6.1.1-1 Runtime library for the Jabber/XMP ii libmysqlclient15off 5.0.51a-24 MySQL database client library ii libpopt0 1.14-4 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libpq5 8.3.7-1 PostgreSQL C client library ii libpth20 2.0.7-12 The GNU Portable Threads ii libstdc++6 4.3.3-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii lsb-base 3.2-22 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii openssl 0.9.8g-15 Secure Socket Layer (SSL) binary a jabberd14 recommends no packages. jabberd14 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
