Hi Roberto,

 Thanks for your message.  This utility is still valid for current laptops
(HP nc6000, for example).  To my knowledge it is the only way to properly
initialize these irda chipsets under Linux.  I have never attempted to
contact the upstream author, but it seems like no further development is
needed unless an RC bug is found -- the program does only one very
specific task, and in my experience, does it correctly every time (on my
machine anyway).
