Email is tough - so much can be signalled/read between the lines, 
intentional or not. I've experienced similar (I think, if I understand 
you correctly) numerous times - and was in fact discouraged from 
committing to cdbs for several years due to feeling turned down in a 
single email.

I say this only to encourage you, not to excuse myself or others: Please 
do describe in more detail what turned you off, if you imagine we might 
be able to learn from the situation!
