Sorry, I should have checked things more carefully before filing the bug. The dvi files are fine, the problem is with xdvi. I can use the dvi files to make pdf files that look fine. When I transfer them to another machine, xdvi opens them and they look fine. When I open them on my laptop (a Dell M1210) with xdvi, they are unreadable. Thanks for any hints.
