When I start a Gnome session from gdm, things progress to the point where my user's desktop wallpaper is displayed, but something gets stuck shortly thereafter. I can un-stuck it by running "killall -9 gnome-settings-daemon" 11 times. After this, I see the usual error dialog about not being able to contact the settings daemon. When I dismiss the dialog, almost everything works fine.
