I also have this problem. I have a Pioneer DVR-A09XL, which can do up to 16X. When I burn at 8X or higher, I get errors like this:
"LUN appears to be stuck writing LBA=10h, retry in 0ms" Sometimes the writing proceeds and it works fine, but most of the time, I get a coaster. Burning at 6X or less works fine. I seem to recall a note in the changelog (or somewhere) about this issue with older Pioneers, and a note that it had been fixed by increasing a timeout.
