Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.11.11-1 Severity: normal Please create a search shorthand that has the semantics of the search functionality in apt-cache. Empirically, it seems that the following is true:
"apt-cache search kde camera" is equivalent to the following: "aptitude search '(~nkde|~dkde)(~ncamera|~ncamera)'" The aptitude form is much longer while the semantics of this type of search are very useful. In the above example, I am looking for any packages that have the words kde or camera in the name or description. It would be really nice to have a nice and simple shorthand to do this kind of search with aptitude. Maybe the following syntax would work: aptitude cache-search kde camera Or maybe a new ~ search pattern should be introduced. I find myself using apt-cache to do searches even though I like the aptitude search output much better.
