I want to make sure I understand. This is a new installation of Debian? And you chose the XFCE user environment, and expected the installer to leave things so that as the new user identified during the installation process you'd be able to use sudo immediately? This is not a bug in the sudo package. The sudo package provides a relatively empty 'template' /etc/sudoers file, but we would consider it a bug for the package to automatically elevate user privs. Since I don't think the Debian installer does anything intentionally to set up superuser privs for users I doubt it's actually a bug there either. However, since there are other distributions that do set up sudo automatically for the primary user at system install time, it's reasonable to suggest this as a feature enhancement (or 'wishlist') item for the Debian installer team to consider. I will downgrade the severity of this bug to 'wishlist' and reassign it to 'debian-installer' for their consideration.
