Package: emacs21 Version: 21.4a-1 Followup-For: Bug #128385 I have the same problem, in both a gnome-terminal and the console. In the gnome-terminal, Emacs21's "white" is really a dark gray. This makes font-lock unusable, since all of the other colors are chosen to work well with a true white.
