Winbind's log in the case where the failure occurs might help. Actually, the point is helping in finding what upstream patch did fix that issue as you confirmed it *has* been fixed. If we find|have the right patch, "maybe" we can consider adding it to an upcoming point release of samba (with the rationale that it fixes an identified regression). Otherwise, there is basically nothing we can do as the bug is fixed by more recent upstream versions.
