I realized that the pixels are in fact square, there are just more of them horizontally compared to vertically (120 DPI by 100 DPI). There is no reason this shouldn't be doable. And the same thing happens with radeon card on a 21" monitor; the monitor can do 1920x1200 so that's what X uses. -- And that's my crabbing done for the day.
