OK, I compiled up a fresh kernel, 2.6.28.7, straight from linus' tree. I explicitly disabled all the selinux and associated security subsystems, and I have exactly the same behaviour with the 2.9 libc.
I'll keep poking at this and see if there is anything I can come up with - unless anybody else has a flash of inspiration? Cheers, Eamonn
