This seems to relate to a bug in mysql-proxy itself, which seems to be fixed in the upcoming 0.7 release. http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=35295 Please note that this bug was reported 3 times, so I'd assume that more than 2 people would be thankful to the the debian team, if they would publish either the 0.6 relase or any other suitable version in etch-backports
