Package: wnpp Severity: normal It is a wonderful C++/Java SMO mathematical algorithm and certainly competitive with svmlight on mathematical and efficiency terms. Unfortunately the packaging from upstream is Windows centric and standard packaging tools like autotools are eschewed year after year. Most other-language bindings are therefore quite out of date. Moreover, upstream has refused to incorporate Rudi's donated manpages but continues to adjust options (thus creating more maintenance work) and in general has not effectively cooperated with Rudi in merging necessary improvements such as Makefile adjustments, pkgconfig files, etc. The most recent exchange resulted in upstream suggesting that they "may" no longer even maintain the Python binding (currently part of the source) so it is potentially another step backward and could become increased work without significant return on investment. Rudi is hoping somebody else has more luck communicating effectively or more motivation to carry on this work, and he would like to focus on his own primary scientific package libcomplearn instead in the future.
