Official Debian 5.0 ISO does not work, no matter what, with the pre-seeding needed for Emdebian Grip 1.0 due to problems getting grip-config in place in time.
The pre-seeding itself allows the install to get started and I've updated various components to make things smoother but I've spent all day on this so far and haven't been able to get the official ISO to work. I've also got an older ISO from about October 08 and that one is fine (it's a small CD image). I only have the i386 arch. 157M 2008-10-26 15:37 debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso The pre-seeding dialog *has* disappeared - it was removed because the code depended on a newer version of one of the d-i components that caused a regression in how d-i handled DHCP. At the time when it was available, the daily builds (using SVN) were probably ahead of the d-i packaging and so the new code is actually in the older images. In addition, something has changed in d-i with regard to the sequence of packages that are installed and the official release requires coreutils to be installed before sed or gcc-4.3-base which defeats the measures taken to get grip-config into place. (The new sequence appears alphabetical instead of a fixed sequence.) Steps to fix: Execute a shell inside d-i, after the failure. ~ # chroot /target/ sh-3.2# wget http://www.emdebian.org/d-i/grip-config.deb sh-3.2# dpkg --unpack grip-config.deb sh-3.2# exit ~ # exit The real issue will be fixed in Emdebian Grip 1.0.1, the interim release due for release alongside the first update to Debian I'll add this info to the website/wiki in due course. -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ http://e-mail.is-not-s.ms/
