Package: libc6 Version: 2.9-1 Severity: important After yesterday's upgrade of libc6 from 2.7-18 to new 2.9-1, and a reboot, almost all programs stopped resolving hostnames. Notable exceptions were ping and dig. After comparing wget and ping source codes, and writing a tiny test program, it became clear that getaddrinfo was not working anymore, while gethostbyname was.
Downgrading libc6 to 2.7-18 resolved the issue. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libc6 depends on: ii libgcc1 1:4.3.3-4 GCC support library libc6 recommends no packages.
